Wayne R. Griswold, PE, CFPS

principal fire protection engineer

In his role as a principal at TERPconsulting, Wayne is responsible for developing client relationships and scopes of work in Colorado and the Middle East. He serves as one of the firm’s technical leads and actively works to find bespoke solutions to complex client problems.

With more than 15 years in the fire protection engineering industry, Wayne is well-versed in design, consulting, hazmat, etc. with specialties in commissioning/testing of complex fire/life safety systems, code consulting, and litigation. He has also worked as an AHJ in multiple scopes focusing on the importance of having a knowledgeable fire department for design enforcement and implementation purposes.

One of Wayne’s career pinnacles was designing a smoke control system and aiding in performing fire modeling simulations for the King Abdulaziz Center for World Culture in Saudi Arabia, which was complex due to its unique architecture. Wayne also cites the challenge of conducting fire/life safety systems design, certification, and testing services at Denver International Airport while it was a working facility. Another career achievement for Wayne was working on Children’s Hospital Colorado where he performed multiple scopes including establishing the design criteria of the facility’s fire/life safety system, performing building/fire code consulting, reviewing IBC/NFPA 101 compliance, and commissioning systems testing and certification.

Before joining TERPconsulting in 2016, Wayne was General Manager at MarTech Fire Solutions, Inc., where he was responsible for business and client development focusing on the Middle East and Gulf Cooperation Council countries. Prior to that, Wayne was a fire protection engineer for Hughes Associates, Inc. (now Jensen Hughes).

Wayne is a registered fire protection professional engineer (PE) in Colorado, New Mexico, and Wisconsin, and a Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) as recognized by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). He is a board member of the SFPE-Rocky Mountain Chapter and he serves on the Regional Fire Code Board of Appeals for the South Metro Fire Rescue Authority (SMFRA) and three NFPA Standards Committees (NFPA 3, 4, and 915). In 2015, Wayne was honored with a ‘40 Under 40’ award by Consulting-Specifying Engineer magazine.
