Enhancing TERPconsulting’s capabilities in the healthcare market, Colton Balthazor leverages his expertise with a Life Safety Specialist for Healthcare Facility Managers (CLSS-HC) certification from the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). His strong knowledge of NFPA 101—Life Safety Code and NFPA 99—Health Care Facilities Code positions him as a key asset in advancing the firm’s healthcare sector offerings.
Before joining TERPconsulting, Colton was a safety specialist at Children’s Hospital Colorado, where he ensured compliance with local, state, and federal fire and life safety codes for all licensed facilities. Prior to that, he worked for the State of Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control, spending five years as a Fire Inspector III-Plans Examiner, Wildland Fire Investigator, and Plan Review Unit Chief. In these roles, he conducted federal surveys for healthcare facilities, performed fire and life safety code-related plan reviews, and conducted on-site construction inspections for new and existing buildings.
Colton’s career began with nine years of active-duty service as a military firefighter in the U.S. Air Force. He excelled in roles including firefighter, driver/operator, company fire officer, and fire prevention officer, honing his skills in emergency response, team leadership, and fire prevention strategies.
Colton has an associate’s degree in Fire Science and is an NFPA-certified Life Safety Specialist for Healthcare Facility Managers (CLSS-HC). His expertise in interpreting ICC and NFPA codes through surveys and plan reviews has been a cornerstone of his professional contributions. Colton is a member of the Arizona chapter of the Society for Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE).
