02 Sep JOE CHACON, PE, SELECTED TO PRESENT AT 2025 EHS HAZMAT SUMMIT IN LOUISVILLE, KY, SEPTEMBER 10th
TERPconsulting’s HazMat expert Joe Chacon, PE, has been chosen to deliver a presentation at the EHS HAZMAT Summit (AHMP) on Wednesday, September 10, in Louisville, KY, at the Galt House Hotel. His 60-minute in-person presentation, scheduled from 1:10 to 2:10 p.m., will delve into “HazMat Requirements of Fire + Building Codes.”
“Understanding the intersection of HazMat classifications and fire and building codes is crucial for ensuring safety and compliance,” Joe said of his forthcoming presentation. “I will be discussing the practical application of code requirements outlined in the International Fire Code (IFC) and International Building Code (IBC) concerning the storage and utilization of hazardous materials.”
An expert in the HazMat field, Joe’s presentation will focus on the chemical classification process to ensure appropriate requirements are enforced. The IFC and IBC hazard classifications will be compared to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) classifications. The IFC and IBC Maximum Allowable Quantities (MAQ) will also be discussed, along with requirements when the MAQ is exceeded.
Joe’s AHMP presentation will also delve into the code requirements enforced in the IBC versus the IFC, discuss code impacts resulting from quantities being stored or used, identify Group H occupancy classification requirements, and explain conditions that exempt a building from Group H requirements.
