JOHN MOTAKA, PE, BRINGS MECHANICAL EXPERTISE TO TERPconsulting’s LAS VEGAS TEAM

TERPconsulting is pleased to announce that John Motaka, PE, has joined its Las Vegas team as a fire protection engineer. He joins the firm’s team of 16 professional engineers across six offices, who collectively hold licenses in 47 states and the District of Columbia.

John’s role at TERPconsulting will focus on mechanical systems engineering, with a particular emphasis on their application in smoke control and life safety design. His work will center on integrating mechanical, fire, and code-driven requirements to support compliant smoke control and detection systems in complex building environments.

His leadership experience and technical rigor will be an immediate asset to our clients in Southern Nevada and beyond.”

John brings extensive expertise in the design of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. His HVAC experience spans the full design lifecycle, from initial project scoping and schematic design through load calculations, thermal and control zoning, equipment sizing and selection, system layout, specification development, and construction-phase observation.

Most recently serving as Director of Mechanical Engineering at Harris Consulting Engineers, John spent a decade overseeing mechanical design for projects across the corporate and government, high-rise, higher education, institutional, and healthcare sectors. In his role as project manager, John led a multidisciplinary team in developing construction documents from schematic design through construction administration.

Recognized for decades of expertise and leadership in the field, John is committed to staying at the forefront of evolving building and fire code changes, particularly those impacting smoke control strategies and system performance.

A licensed professional engineer in Nevada, John has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
