From fire sprinkler, standpipe, and fire pump systems to underground piping, and special hazards, there is not much Rick hasn’t mastered during several decades working in the fire protection industry. His experience in the field of fire protection engineering runs the gamut from small-scale sites to megaprojects including high-rise buildings, casinos, industrial complexes, and power plants.
In his role as a fire protection engineer at TERPconsulting, Rick shares his expertise in fire protection hazards, preparation of fire protection reports and RFAMs as well as reviews and designs comprehensive fire protection systems. Highlights in Rick’s career have encompassed a variety of projects in Nevada including the Las Vegas Hilton, Bellagio Hotel & Casino, Wynn Las Vegas, and Tonopah Test Range Aircraft Hanger. On the nuclear and energy front, his expertise was sought out for high-profile projects such as the St. Lucie Nuclear Power Plant in Florida and PGE Cooling Towers at The Geysers Geothermal Power Plant.
Rick’s career includes leadership positions in engineering, project management, design, and review, and encompasses numerous aspects of fire life safety and property hazards. Prior to joining TERPconsulting in 2019, Rick operated his own fire protection consulting firm for more than ten years where he provided code consulting for various commercial, industrial, and government clients. Additionally, Rick was an instructor of Fire Protection System Design at Guilford Technical Community College in Jamestown, North Carolina.
Rick is a registered professional fire protection engineer in North Carolina and has his NICET Level IV Senior Engineering Technician (SET) certification. He is a member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and the National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA).
