24 Jul HEATHER YOUNGHUSBAND EARNS COVETED RAS DESIGNATION, TEXAS’S CERTIFICATION FOR ACCESSIBILITY CONSULTING
TERPconsulting is pleased to congratulate Heather Younghusband for successfully earning her Registered Accessibility Specialist (RAS) certification through the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). The RAS certification is a Texas state-specific professional designation for accessibility consulting to ensure compliance with the adopted state accessibility standards.
“The RAS exam has a 58% pass rate, so I was grateful and thrilled to find out I passed,” said Heather, TERPconsulting’s lead accessibility consultant, of taking the RAS test earlier this month.
Heather’s RAS designation provides her with the certification to perform plan reviews of construction documents and inspection services for both private and publicly funded buildings and facilities in order to verify compliance with provisions of the Texas Architectural Barriers Act (TABA), including the Texas Accessibility Standards (TAS). Additionally, State of Texas (TDLR) licensed registered accessibility specialists are charged with maintaining familiarity with Title 16, Texas Administrative Code, Architectural Administrative Rules, and Texas Government Code, Chapter 469, Elimination of Architectural Barriers Act.
TDLR’s RAS program is designed to meet the need for experienced, trained, and tested individuals who can inspect buildings and sites for compliance with applicable state and federal construction-related accessibility standards. Those certified in the RAS program are knowledgeable of state and federal accessibility laws and regulations and possess the expertise to promote access to facilities for persons with disabilities.
In addition to her RAS certification, Heather also possesses a CASp designation, International Code Council (ICC) certification, and is an Accessibility Inspector and Plans Examiner. Heather joined TERPconsulting in 2018 as a fire protection consultant. She has a diploma in Architectural and Building Technology (ABT) from the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
