JOE CHACON, PE, SELECTED TO GIVE HAZMAT PRESENTATION AT 2026 EHS HAZMAT SUMMIT IN NEW ORLEANS ON SEPTEMBER 29th

Joe Chacon to present at EHS Hazmat Summer in 2026.TERPconsulting’s Joe Chacon, PE, a seasoned professional and HazMat expert, has been chosen to deliver a presentation at the EHS HAZMAT Summit (AHMP) on Tuesday, September 29, in New Orleans. His very popular 60-minute in-person presentation, scheduled from 2 to 3 p.m. in Churchill A conference space at the Hilton New Orleans Riverside, will cover “HazMat Requirements of Fire + Building Codes.”

“Hazardous materials don’t always fit neatly into a single classification system, and understanding how those classifications translate into fire and building code requirements is essential for making the right compliance decisions,” Joe said of his forthcoming presentation. “My goal is to help attendees understand how the IFC and IBC approach hazardous materials, where those requirements intersect with GHS and DOT classifications, and how storage and use quantities can ultimately affect a facility’s design, occupancy, and regulatory requirements.”

As a HazMat expert, Joe’s presentation will focus on the chemical classification process to ensure the appropriate requirements are enforced. The IFC and IBC hazard classifications will be compared to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) classifications. The IFC and IBC Maximum Allowable Quantities (MAQ) will also be discussed, along with requirements when the MAQ is exceeded.

Joe’s AHMP presentation will also focus on the code requirements enforced in the IBC versus the IFC, discuss code impacts resulting from stored or used quantities, identify Group H occupancy classification requirements, and explain conditions that exempt a building from Group H requirements.
