Jorge Velasco of TERPconsulting’s Southern California Office Receives Deputy Smoke Control Inspector License

TERPconsulting is pleased to announce that Jorge Velasco was officially certified as a Deputy Smoke Control Inspector for the city of Los Angeles last month. “I feel so much relief knowing the wait is finally over and I was successful in accomplishing this career goal that I set for myself three years ago,” Jorge said of receiving the news he had passed the exam that had been delayed for two years due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Officially licensed as a Deputy Smoke Control Inspector, Jorge completed the city’s licensing process in May when he passed the testing portion, which is administered by the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety – Mechanical Division. In addition to the exam, certification to become a Deputy Smoke Control Inspector involves verification in the areas of experience, training, and knowledge. This achievement allows TERPconsulting to conduct smoke control inspections and testing in the city of Los Angeles.

As a regional director and senior fire protection consultant, Jorge manages the Southern California operations of TERPconsulting. Jorge’s industry specialties include 3rd party smoke control, fire alarm, and special suppression system testing, and the design and inspection of fire protection systems including fire suppression, detection, and alarm systems. In addition to his latest certification, Jorge is Level III-certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET).

With more than 30 years of experience, Jorge is a member of both the local and national chapters of Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE), National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), and California Automatic Fire Alarm Association (CAFAA). He joined TERPconsulting in 2019 as a senior fire protection consultant, and in 2022, his role was expanded to regional director.
