05 Jul TERPconsulting WELCOMES FIRE ALARM AUTHORITY SAM YOUNG, SET TO DENVER TEAM
Sam Young, SET has joined TERPconsulting’s Denver team as a senior fire protection consultant. Possessing more than two decades of experience in the fire protection arena, Sam’s fire alarm-centric career has been centered around a contracting role. Sam has shifted his career path from contracting to consulting with his transition to TERPconsulting.
“I realized my passion was not in management but in expertise, problem-solving, and client relationships,” Sam explained of his decision to join TERPconsulting in June. “I have always been intrigued with the consulting side of the business and decided that would be the best path for my career moving forward.”
Sam’s technical expertise spans various aspects of complex fire alarm-related issues, encompassing design support/review, project management, programming, and system commissioning. With a specialty in high-rise fire alarm system retrofits Sam’s project and service experience includes the ability to reverse engineer older smoke control systems, enabling their repair or seamless integration with new equipment. “Some of the most challenging aspects of these types of projects include maintaining existing systems and integrating the new ones without compromising the safety of the occupants,” said Sam.
One of his recent fire alarm retrofit projects was in the healthcare vertical which included an analysis of an existing fire alarm system to determine what could be retained and what needed to be replaced. “After reviewing the existing life safety plan/evacuation protocol and determining what equipment would be needed I provided a project plan that would minimize the impact on patients and maintain life safety systems for the duration of the project,” explained Sam.
Prior to joining TERPconsulting, Sam was one of three primary partners at Integrity Fire Safety Services which was founded in 2018. Sam helped grow the Denver-based company to an annual revenue of $18 million and 150 skilled fire safety technicians. His primary role was to manage the company’s fire alarm teams.
Beginning his career in the fire protection industry at Denver-based Fire Alarm Services in 2001, Sam worked his way up the career ladder from fire alarm installer to field supervisor. He next worked at Metro State Fire, a fire protection service provider, for 13 years, finishing his career there as a Fire Alarm Operations Manager.
Certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level IV SET in Fire Alarm Systems, Sam is a member of both the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) and the Automatic Fire Alarm Association (AFAA).
