Project Scope: Fire Alarm Design, Smoke Control General Consulting, and Rational Analysis
Built in 1982, Union Tower, located at 165 S. Union Boulevard in Lakewood, Colorado, is a ten-story commercial office building measuring approximately 284,413 ft2. TERPconsulting provided fire alarm system design and smoke control consulting services related to the replacement of the fire alarm system and the modification of the smoke control system in the building. Specifically, TERPconsulting prepared a fire alarm basis of design narrative that included requirements per the latest adopted edition of the International Building Code (IBC) and International Fire Code (IFC) by West Metro Fire District (WMFD). The report also included updates from the originally permitted and installed system design to currently adopted codes and standards. TERPconsulting also performed code analysis to identify smoke control system performance criteria per the latest adopted building and fire code and performed a multi-zone pressurization analysis of the smoke control systems. Additionally, TERPconsulting prepared a smoke control rational analysis as required by IBC/IFC Section 909.
