The Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE) has selected two of TERPconsulting’s fire protection industry veterans to offer instruction to Qatar Civil Defense officers ahead of the 2022 FIFA World Cup being played in Qatar later this year.

On behalf of SFPE, TERPconsulting’s Mark Hopkins, PE and Wayne Griswold, PE will be teaching a course on fire sprinkler design and review to Qatar Civil Defense’s engineering team in Doha, Qatar during the last week of May. One of SFPE’s missions is to produce and present educational content to advance fire protection engineering education by promoting the technical advancement of members and introducing allied professionals to fundamentals in the field.

“We were incredibly honored to be approached by SFPE with this opportunity and even more delighted to share our knowledge and expertise with our fellow fire protection professionals in Qatar,” Jim Begley, principal of TERPconsulting, said.

Mark Hopkins, PE, FSFPE has nearly 30 years of experience in all aspects of fire protection engineering. Prior to joining TERPconsulting in 2020 as regional director and senior fire protection engineer, Mark was Vice President of Engineering at the National Fire Sprinkler Association (NFSA) where he oversaw the operations of the engineering department and was the chief technical expert on fire sprinkler systems for the national trade organization.

Leveraging his expertise and leadership abilities to make significant advancements in fire safety, Mark has served as secretary and senior staff representative on multiple NFSA technical committees and councils. He has also participated in more than a dozen technical committees involved in the development of National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes and standards, directed fire sprinkler research, promulgated standards, and taught classes on fire protection systems-related topics.

Wayne Griswold, PE, CFPS manages TERPconsulting’s Colorado and Saudi Arabia operations out of the firm’s Denver office. With more than 15 years in the fire protection engineering industry, Wayne is experienced in design review and commissioning of fire and life safety systems with an emphasis in smoke control special inspections, developing testing documentation for commissioning of fire/life safety systems, including fire alarm, fire suppression, smoke control, clean agent and fireproofing assemblies, and fire alarm and fire suppression design tasks.

Wayne is a registered Fire Protection Professional Engineer (PE) in two states, and a Certified Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS) as recognized by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA). He currently serves on three NFPA Standards Committees (NFPA 3, 4, and 915) and is a board member of the SFPE-Rocky Mountain Chapter.
